Stop What You’re Doing and Plan a Visit to These 5 Cities This Fall

As you count down the minutes until you’re back in the office (because hey, at least they have air conditioning), don’t fear. Autumn, with its cool breezes and tourist-free traffic, will soon be here, so it near a fan and start planning some PTO days for any of these top cities to visit in fall.

1. New York City, United States

You know it’s autumn in New York when the smell of urine is back to its usual levels of fermented annoyance. By fall, the East Coast humidity has dissipated, along with some of the summer crowds, making it easier to stroll around the steel jungle. For a perfect autumn day, purchase some suspicious meat at a hot dog cart, then walk through Central Park, where a kaleidoscope of oranges, reds, and golds await you. Other top activities include touring the Metropolitan Museum of Art, eating lunch at the High Line, and attending the Village Halloween Parade if you’re around in October.

2. Oslo, Norway

Use those photography skills for more than your brunch when you make your way to Oslo, Norway, for autumn. The foliage game is on point around the city. Top spots for prime shots include Akershus Fortress, Palace Park, and Vigeland Sculpture Park, which blends classic structures into the beauty of nature. For an extra splash of colour, make a date with the Autumn Art Exhibition, which takes place each September through October. The show incorporates contemporary art that often pushes the boundaries of polite society, and you’ll be talking about it for the rest of the season.

3. Vancouver, Canada

Coffee towns tend to be autumn towns, and Vancouver is no exception. Grab some brew on the go and walk through Stanley Park, where you can watch the sailboats cut through the waves while changing trees drop their leaves. You can also get your caffeine fix on Robson Street before going on a shopping spree. The avenue always has the newest fashions available in the city, perfect for the upcoming chilly temperatures. Trust us—you’ll be the most stylish one in the coffee shop when you’re back from your trip.

4. Munich, Germany

Oktoberfest. That’s all you need to know. [Drops mic]

Okay, I’m being told by my editor that I actually do need to explain more. So! Oktoberfest. It’s the beer party of beer parties. It’s where young ales hope to end up someday. It’s the Olympics of pints and grizzled beards full of foam. The 16-day festival is the largest beer event in the world, and attracts visitors from all over the globe. There are other things to do in Munich too, like checking out Deutsches Museum, English Park, and Old Picture Gallery, but if you’re visiting in fall, you know why you’re here. It’s all about those suds.

5. Yellowstone, United States

Find your inner Ansel Adams and make a trip to Yellowstone National Park during fall. Enjoy the brisk air nipping at your nose as you admire the picturesque setting of the landscape. Yellowstone was actually the world’s first national park, and today its lush forests, blistering hot springs, and roaring geysers are still safe from urban sprawl. Spending some time roasting marshmallows by a campfire under the stars is what life is all about. Enjoy the changing of seasons in true wonder.

This fall, get out of town and into the world. It’s warm enough to venture around, while cool enough not to melt in the sun like a ghoul from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Happy travels!
